WELCOME TO S.M.A.!

With locations in Heidelberg, Milverton, New Hamburg and Wingham, Schweitzer's Martial Arts offers classes for ages 4 to adult.

S.M.A. (Schweitzer's Martial Arts) students are trained in Goshin Jutsu.  A style notable for self-defense.  Along with self-defense, students will learn basic Martial Arts skills (hand and foot techniques) and Kata (a series of Martial Arts moves).  In class students are also encouraged to take part in light contact sparring (kumite).  We also offer traditional karate weapons training (kobudo), for more experienced students.

As well as providing students with the ability to defend themselves, S.M.A. also teaches and reinforces strong values; such as respect, patience, perseverance and self-discipline.  Values that will help students of all ages, grow and develop not only as a martial artists but as individuals.

About

BENEFITS OF MARTIAL ARTS TRAINING

Martial arts will teach you self-defense and get you in great shape.  The kicks and punches will strengthen your arms, legs and heart.  The drills we do also help your focus and memory skills. Confidence is built as students master the art and improve.  The breathing exercises and physicality helps calm people down; this helps for stress relief and anger control.  Karate is much more than fighting, in fact, karateka rarely get into angry confrontations.

MISCONCEPTIONS OF MARTIAL ARTS

Unfortunately, it's a popular misconception that karate is violent.  This is brought on by TV and Mixed Martial Arts.  Karate people rarely get in fights or engage in violence.  Renshi has taught for over 10 years and her instructor has taught over 40 years, and both have never had trouble with students using martial arts inappropriately.  Violent people can't handle the discipline of karate; therefore they never get past the first few classes.  The benefits of karate are self-discipline, self-control and self-confidence.  While it is a self-defense art, it is also a health art and a mental discipline.  Because of misguided TV shows, people only see the self-defense aspect.  We are trying to change that way of thinking.
